Steve says to write more on my blog...so, Dear Diary...
since I've worked in alternative for 20 years I will talk a little about that. When I first moved to CA in 85, I was hired to work in a continuation school. I had never heard of one of those, but thought I'd like to live in CA for a year, packed my car with a few clothes and my stereo and drove out thinking I'd be back to the Midwest in a year...well, it's 2008, and besides a 4 year span away, I find myself still in CA. I grew up in a "leave it to beaver" style family, town, community, etc so working with at-risk kids was totally foreign to me. The funny thing is, I found I could connect with these kids and have a passion for working with them. After 20 years, I still like them! My frustration is with districts that don't fund the programs so that we can work with this population! That's education I guess...
I enjoy walking our two dogs near Lake Herman. We have a 3 month old puppy and it is funny to watch her splash the water. As a family we enjoy sailing in the Straits, down to SF, or Santa Cruz! I also enjoy mountain biking and spent several months in the AZ desert this spring exploring trails. I have done a lot of traveling and like living in other cultures...after about 6 months though I do start to miss the comforts of the US!
